How to get the perfect abs

I’d say the number 1 thing I’ve been asked over the years is how to get a flat stomach or six-pack.

Everyone has abs, they are just under hidden by body fat so it makes sense that dropping this body fat will expose the abs. This is true to a certain extent.

Abs are like any other muscle, they need to be trained in order to grow. If all you want is a flat stomach then for sure just dropping body fat will give you this. If you want a well-defined set of abs then you need to train them.

Targeting an area that you want to improve on is very important so don’t skip ab day. Combine this with being at a calorie deficit and over time you will begin to see the development you are after. The time this take will depend on the level of body fat and how consistent you are with training and nutrition.

The shape and thickness of your abs are down to your genetics also and some people may need to get their body fat a lot lower to see them.

Believe me when I say it is very hard to keep a ripping six pack year round but it is more than achievable to keep shape and definition around that area providing you keep your body fat at a good level, you train your abs and don’t overindulge too often.

Here are a couple of my favourite ab exercises:

Knee to elbow plank
Hanging leg raise
Cable crunch
Try to perform 12-15 reps of each exercise for 3-4 sets
