3 Benefits of stretching and mobility

Stretching and mobility work is something that is neglected by most of us. Most find it boring or don’t have time for it. I am also guilty of this but due to recent injuries it has shown me how important it really is. I spend 30 minutes each night whilst watching tv stretching and foam rolling to help prevent any further injuries.

Regular stretching can help to loosen tight muscles, leading to increased range of motion which then decreases the chance of injury. 

Back pain can be quite common, especially with office workers who are sat at a desk for 8+ hours per day. Hamstrings, back, glutes and hip flexors can all become tight from prolonged sitting so regularly stretching of these muscles should prevent back pain. 

Regular stretching can also improve range of motion e.g. poor posture from sitting can cause internal rotation of the shoulders which then leads to poor shoulder mobility.  Stretching of the pectoral muscles should help improve this.
