Why it’s Important to be Surrounded by Positive People

In life it’s always important to be surrounded by people who support your goals and aspirations. Your environment will play a massive part in how easy you find it to reach what you’re striving for. Surrounding yourself with positive people and influences can make or break your experience with a fitness journey or anything in life for that matter.

The term ‘positive people’ doesn’t always mean happy people – it just means people who keep a positive outlook on life. These people can be anyone, your friends, family or coworkers. These people have your genuine best interest at heart and want to see you do well. Positive people know that cheering on someone else’s success doesn’t detract or take away from their own.

The people we spend our time around have a massive impact on our daily actions and development. Immersing yourself with positive people and a positive environment comes with many benefits, some of which include:

Positive influence: Your personal and social circle should be a small group of your own role models. People naturally gravitate towards people they are inspired by, and this will encourage you to rise up to the level you wish to be at. Other people’s positive traits and energy will begin to influence your behaviour and mould you into the person you aspire to be. If you’re continually spending time with people who are bringing a negative energy to the table that will eventually wear off on you, so it’s important to spend time with people who have uplifting attitudes in order to build and develop your own character and mindset.

Support and constructive criticism: There will always be tough times in life. People don’t become great by staying inside their comfort zone. During more difficult or challenging times having positive and supportive people around you will encourage you to push forward with your goals. The right people will tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. When you are in a good environment people will support you, listen to you and advise you with how to progress, and also deliver tough love when needed.

Having people to applaud your victories: Personal celebration of goals is incredibly important, but it makes a huge difference when you’re surrounded by people who want to do well. Unfortunately not everyone in life will want you to do well, so it’s vital to find the ones who do. Hearing that someone is proud of you is a fantastic confidence boost. A good attitude usually dictates a good result and when you are surrounded by successful people it will generally motivate and encourage you to work towards being a more successful individual.

Embarking on a new fitness journey or health venture can be very overwhelming. It can get hard and tiring and that’s why it’s important to have positive influences around you. Some people would rather take the easy route and just pack in their goals or stop at the first sign of struggling – people who genuinely want what’s best for you will support you and help lift you up when you’re struggling because they know the end result is where you want or need to be.
